Victorian houses are designed intricately to fit the era of its fame. The Victorian period is the time when Queen Victoria ruled Britain. The said design was influenced by classicism of Regency styles from the Victorian era until 1940s. Each of the corners of the Vicotiran house is carefully and intricately carved in a design that the owner wants it to achieve.
Here are some examples of Victorian Houses. All of the photos are compiled from the photos found on Google. I do not own any of them. No copyright infringement intended.
Typical Characteristics of Victorian houses
- Bay windows (they stick out)
- Iron/Wood Railings
- Flemish brick bonding
- Patterns in the brickwork made from coloured bricks / wood
- Stained glass in doorways and windows.
- Roofs made of slate.
- No garage
- Sash windows (they open by sliding the window up)
The intricate carvings on the arches of the house above make it stand out even though the paint is just in plain white.
Wallah. The penthouses below are more to any penthouses you see along the road. They captivate any one who passes by.
And this house is closer to a doll house than to a normal human house. :) It looks a lot cuter though. And it's pastel pink. <3
My next post will be about the interior of Victorian Houses. Watch out. :)
